Nagaru Tanigawa's tale of a fiery high school girl named Haruhi is anything but simple. Comedic throughout, it is extremely entertaining to watch, but the heart of the series is a question we all ask ourselves now and again: "What, really, is the value of this life?"
Haruhi Suzumiya, a recent transfer from another school, rapidly becomes bored by the mediocrity of school life. To overcome her boredom, she coerces Kyon, Yuki, Mikuru, Itsuki to form the SOS Brigade, a club intent on discovering aliens, time travellers, and espers. Kyon, being a very serious and pessimistic young man, initially finds her actions ludicrous and annoying. But, what if there actually were aliens, time travellers, and espers?
A crucial note for this anime is that it absolutely must be viewed in the order of its original release (See Wikipedia's list of episodes under the "Kyon" order, order B). Although non-linear, it has to be viewed this way or the entire story structure is ruined, so buckle down and deal with it if you don't like stories that aren't presented in exact chronological order.
