This is a great anime, and a lot of fun, if you appreciate weird, quirky, very Japanese humor and psychedelic animation. In addition, it's a very moving coming-of-age story, an incredibly original piece, and it features a great soundtrack.
Let's see... Naota (human), Mamimi (human), Haruko Haruhara (alien)... and a flying robot that bakes bread... a giant factory (clothing iron)... Mr. no-eyebrows... all join together to... do what?... oh yeah... something about a blue vintage Rickenbacker 4001, Medical Mechanica, and the mysterious all-powerful "pirate king" Atomsk. Go!
On a side note, if you have ever heard someone joke about how watching Cirque du Soleil on shrooms is a terrifying experience, watching FLCL on pot is probably about as intense except the exact opposite: you could seriously die laughing, so be warned.
